Winter in Himachal is less about adventure and more about atmosphere. A few ideas:
- Snow viewing: Kufri, Narkanda, Solang, Sissu and Dainkund near Dalhousie.
- Village stays: Jibhi, Shoja and Tirthan Valley for forest and river views.
- Kinnaur villages: Kalpa and Sangla for orchards and high peaks under snow.
- Tibetan culture: McLeod Ganj and Bir.
- Hot springs: Manikaran, in the Parvati valley, about 40 km from Kullu and known for its hot springs.
- Cafes and slow walks: the easiest way to enjoy cold weather.
Check before you book an activity
1. Is it actually running this week? Snow and wind cancel activities.
2. Is the operator registered, and who provides safety gear?
3. What is the refund if it is cancelled?
4. Is the route open? Rohtang and Jalori close in winter.
Avoid pre-paying for snow-dependent activities that cannot be refunded.
