How Many Days Do You Need for Himachal? Choose a 5, 7 or 10-Day Route

Mountain ridges in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal is large, and hill roads are slow. Days matter more than distance.

5 days: one region
- Shimla with Kufri and Narkanda, or
- Manali with Solang and Sissu, or
- Dharamshala with McLeod Ganj and Bir.

7 days: two bases
- Shimla and Manali, or
- Dharamshala and Dalhousie, or
- Shimla and Kinnaur (Narkanda, Sarahan and Kalpa), which is roughly 316 km from Shimla through Sangla and Chitkul and about 7 hours of driving if you run it end to end.

10 days: three or four stops, or one deep region
- Shimla, Manali, Dharamshala and Dalhousie, or
- Shimla and a full Kinnaur circuit.

Rule of thumb. Spend at least two nights per base. A new hotel every night turns a holiday into a drive.

Winter or monsoon. Add a buffer day for road closures.
