Nine days on the itinerary is not nine days away from your desk.
Count it like this
1. The first day is usually the pickup day at Chandigarh or Delhi. Reach that city the evening before.
2. Nine itinerary days take you to your drop-off.
3. Add the travel day back home.
4. Add one spare day.
If your office week ends on Friday, start so that the first or last days fall on a weekend. That can save one or two leave days.
Why the spare day matters. In winter the road to Spiti runs through Kinnaur and can be blocked by snow or ice. The Manali-Kaza route over Kunzum Pass is closed in winter. A delay of a day is not unusual, and the cost of a missed flight is high.
Practical steps
- Apply for leave with a note that you may need one extra day.
- Choose a changeable return ticket.
- Avoid important meetings on the day after you return.
- Carry any regular medicines for the whole period plus a few days.
