Booking a Himachal Hotel in Winter: Heating, Hot Water and Road Access Checklist

A cabin among pines in snow, Tosh, Himachal Pradesh

A hotel that looks good in summer photos may be uncomfortable in January.

Confirm in writing
1. Heating. Is there a room heater or heating, and is it included or charged extra?
2. Hot water. Is it available through the day, or only at fixed hours?
3. Road access. Can a car reach the property after snow, or is there a walk from the road?
4. Power backup. Is there an inverter or generator?
5. Meals. Which plan applies (EP, CP, MAP or AP), and when does the kitchen close?
6. Cancellation. What applies if roads are blocked?

Reading reviews. Look for reviews from winter months, not summer ones.

Choose location wisely. Staying close to the main road or town is easier in snow. Offbeat homestays are charming but can be hard to reach after heavy snowfall.
