Best Time for Adventure in Manali: A Season-by-Season Guide

Manali valley and mountains

Manali changes a lot through the year. Pick the season for what you want to do. Dates below are typical patterns, not promises.

Winter (roughly December to February).

This is the usual snow season, and Solang is the common place for snow activities. Snow in town is not guaranteed, and it varies year to year. Rohtang is normally closed. Roads can be slow, so add buffer time.

Spring (roughly March to May).

Days warm up and the valley turns green. Rohtang opens only after snow clearing, and the date changes every year.

Summer (June).

This is peak season, so book rooms and travel early. High routes open when weather and orders allow.

Monsoon (roughly July to mid-September).

The district can pause rafting, paragliding and similar activities, and in 2026 it did so from 15 July to 15 September. Rain also brings landslides and road delays. Check the current orders before you plan activities.

Autumn (roughly late September to November).

Activities resume once any monsoon pause is lifted. The air is clear and crowds are thinner. High roads like Rohtang close when heavy snow arrives, and the date varies.

Rafting windows.

Official tourism listings suggest January to June and September to December for Beas rafting. Actual dates depend on river level and district orders, so confirm with the operator.

Our suggestion.

For a first trip, spring and autumn are usually easier on weather, but check current conditions. For snow, look at December to February and keep a spare day.
