Manali is small, but a few days fill up fast. Here is how we think about the sightseeing side of a trip.
Old Manali and Mall Road.
Start slow. Walk through Old Manali for its cafes and the Manu Temple, then spend an evening on Mall Road. It suits the first day, after the overnight journey.
Solang Valley.
Solang Valley is the usual base for snow in winter and for ropeway and activity stops at other times.
Atal Tunnel and Sissu.
The Atal Tunnel is 9.02 km long and sits above 3,000 m. It links Manali with Lahaul and shortens the route that once went over Rohtang. A day trip beyond it shows a very different, drier landscape. Check road and weather conditions and any local rules on the day, and allow for traffic.
Rohtang Pass.
Rohtang is about 51 km from Manali. Access depends on snow and on official orders each season, and tourist vehicles need a permit from the official Rohtang permit portal, with daily limits. Check the current status before you plan around it. We can help you check.
Kasol and Manikaran.
Our Manali Kasol package covers the Kasol side of the region, if you want to combine Manali with it.
Planning tip.
Pick one big outing per day and keep the rest light. Mountain weather changes plans, so leave one day flexible.
